Semiotic Representations In The Learning Of Rational Numbers By 2nd Grade Portuguese Students

چکیده

The use of different registers to represent mathematical concepts improves their understanding. For example, rational numbers can be represented by symbolic or pictorial representations and natural language, this kind transformation between them learning. Based on these assumptions, a teaching experiment for the learning 2nd grade students were conducted understand contribution semiotic in numbers, particular topic unit fractions. Using qualitative methodology content analysis students' written productions, study shows greater representation register compared other types. Students' main difficulties relate fractions understanding concept fraction itself. Some are result errors such as misrepresentation register, association half with multiple fractions, absence bar when they everyday terms language graphic register.
